ENGLISH

The English have such a long-standing presence in this country that the ethnic identity isn't as strong as it might be for many other groups.

Nevertheless, in the 2000 census, 24,509,692 people in the U.S. claimed English ancestry.

ePodunk mapped the top communities by percentage of population. The map and the following list show communities in which 1,000 or more people listed an ancestry group, and in which at least 30 percent of those people said they were English.

Utah has long had a strong English heritage, as is evident in the above map. As long ago as 1890s, Salt Lake City was the most English city in the U.S.
