Hollywood is a neighborhood of Los Angeles
The community was named by the founder's wife, after meeting a woman whose summer home was called Hollywood.
Elevation is 354 feet.
The neighborhood is in the Santa Monica Mountains (here called the Hollywood Hills).
The town was annexed by Los Angeles in 1910.
The first Hollywood picture, "The Law of the Range," was filmed in 1911.
Voters defeated measures in 2002 that would have allowed San Fernando Valley and Hollywood to secede from the city of Los Angeles.
The famous Hollywood sign, erected on Mount Lee in 1923, features letters 50 feet high and 30 feet across.
Filming location for:

· 2006 movie, "Borat"
Well-known residents have included:
· Howard Hughes, eccentric millionaire
· Greta Garbo, actress
