Sioux Falls is a city in Minnehaha County. (The community straddles Minnehaha and Lincoln counties; ePodunk links to the county with the greater share of population.)

It is the county seat.

The community was named for the cascades on the Big Sioux.

The latitude of Sioux Falls is 43.55N. The longitude is -96.7W.

It is in the Central Standard time zone. Elevation is 1,470 feet.

Sioux Falls is on the Big Sioux River.
Land speculators from Minnesota and Iowa moved here in 1857. The settlement was abandoned five years later, because of Indian attack.

Settlers returned to the area after construction of Fort Dakota in 1865.
