Enumclaw is a city in King County, in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area.
The community was named for Indian term, variously translated as "loud noise" or "home of the evil spirits."

The estimated population, in 2003, was 10,941.
In addition to being an agricultural center, one that centered on hops in the late 20th century, the area was also a lumber center.
The railroad came to the community in 1910. Incorporation followed three years later.
