San Angelo is at the junction of the North and South Concho rivers.
The community grew up around Fort Concho, which was once home to the Buffalo Soldiers.
Patients suffering from tuberculosis came here in the early 1900s to recuperate.
Known for pearls found in the Concho River; a permit is required to retrieve them.
