East Village is a neighborhood of New York
Bounded by 14th Street, Houston Street, Avenue D and the Bowery and 3rd Avenue.
Former and merged names include:
Peter Stuyvesant built his estate here in 1651. He was buried in the churchyard of St. Mark's.
East Village received national attention for the 1904 sinking of the General Slocum excursion boat, killing 1,200 parishioners of the local St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
