Bridgeport is a neighborhood of Chicago

The neighborhood is on the South Branch of the Chicago River, five miles southwest of the Loop.
Former and merged names include:
In the 1840s, slaughter houses began to relocate to the area.
The community was annexed by Chicago in 1863.
In the late 1880s, many other ethnic groups began to call the predominantly Irish neighborhood home, including more Germans, Native Americans, and Eastern Europeans.
In the 1830s, the area was settled by Irish and German immigrants who built the Illinois & Michigan Canal.
Well-known residents have included:
