Grand Boulevard is a neighborhood of Chicago
The community is on the south side of Chicago, five miles from the Loop.
Bounded by 39th Street, 51st Street, Cottage Grove Avenue, and the Rock Island & Pacific Railroad tracks.
The neighborhood includes much of what was once known as Bronzeville, a community of African Americans in the years of segregation.
Former and merged names include:
· Forestville Settlement
The community, as part of Hyde Park Township, was annexed by Chicago in 1889.
By 1930, over 90% of the neighborhood's residents were African American, helping to make the area the business and cultural center for the city's African-American community.
Well-known residents have included:
· Oscar DePriest, first black from the North to be elected to the U.S. Congress
