Washington Park is a neighborhood of Chicago
The community takes its name from the park in the neighborhood's eastern half.

The community is located on the south side of the city, seven miles from the Loop.
Washington Park is bounded by 51st Street, Washington Park, 61st Street, and the Penn Central and Rock Island railway lines.
In the 1880s, the Washington Park Race Track was constructed. For a time, one of its races offerred the country's largest purse. However, in 1905, an anti-gambling drive that prohibited gambling within the city forced the track to close.
Throughout its history, residents of the community have been quite transient, more than willing to pick up and move out once they had the resources.
African Americans moved to the area in the 1880s. By 1915, their numbers began to increase dramatically. Fifteen years later, 90% of the community was African American.
Irish and German immigrants moved here, starting in the mid-1850s, to work for the Rock Island Railroad.
