East Cambridge is a neighborhood of Cambridge. Elevation is 10 feet.


The neighborhood is largely working class.
At the beginning of the Revolutionary War, during a siege on Boston in 1776, General George Washington commanded his troops from a hill in the area.

In 1809, Craigie's Bridge opened, linking Cambridge with Boston.

The area began to grow in the early 1800s, attracting immigrant factory workers.

In the 1860s, around half of the population was Irish.Immigrants from Portugal and Italy came to the area soon after.
