Site of important battle in Texans' fight for independence from Mexico. Nine hundred men, led by General Sam Houston, surprised 1,200 Mexicans commanded by President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. The Texans, raising the war cry ?Remember the Alamo!? routed the enemy in a decisive victory
