During the same period, 11,188 people died from cancer. The county death rate from cancer was 2.9 per thousand people, compared with 2.5 per thousand statewide.
A reported 272 people died in motor vehicle accidents. The county death rate from such accidents was 0.1 per thousand people, compared with 0.1 per thousand statewide.
The average age of people living in Allegheny County at the time of the 2000 census was 40.0, compared with 38.5 statewide and 36.2 nationwide.
