During the same period, 132 people died from cancer. The county death rate from cancer was 4.2 per thousand people, compared with 1.6 per thousand statewide.
A reported 15 people died in motor vehicle accidents.
The average age of people living in Sabine County at the time of the 2000 census was 44.7, compared with 33.9 statewide and 36.2 nationwide.
