During the same period, 11,495 people died from cancer. The county death rate from cancer was 2.3 per thousand people, compared with 2.5 per thousand statewide.
A reported 715 people died in motor vehicle accidents. The county death rate from such accidents was 0.1 per thousand people, compared with 0.2 per thousand statewide.
The average age of people living in Broward County at the time of the 2000 census was 38.8, compared with 39.5 statewide and 36.2 nationwide.
